In tennis world standard and general public opinion, she became together with her equally formidable sister Serena Williams at the beginning of 21st-century global love and admiration. Venus Williams has won the Wimbledon Championship five times.
Exhibition Worth Checking Out:
Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space
Open Date: June 21, 2024
Close Date: December 1, 2024
Location: High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA
Artist: Tyler Mitchell
Summary: Atlanta-born and-raised Tyler Mitchell rocketed to international acclaim when he photographed Beyoncé for Vogue—the young Black artist became the first Black photographer to shoot a cover story in the publication's over 125-year history. This show will survey how fine art and fashion photographers seamlessly merge those practices with themes of Black self-determination and historical and cultural motifs of empowerment. This week's cultural gems remind me of the strength and creativity that mark Black artistry. From Gordon Parks's amazing photography to lyric geniuses like Maya Angelou and powerful musicians like Nina Simone, Black creatives constantly challenge norms and inspire progress with their continued work.
On a more personal note, one thing that has been on my mind lately is the evolution of this platform. You may have received an email about changing the name from "BLK ART BITES" to "The BLK PRSPCTV (Stands for The Black Perspective (new website: theblkprspctv.com)”
This is more than cosmetic; it represents the promise to offer breadth and depth in exploring Black creativity. Where "BLK ART BITES" celebrated Black artistry in celebratory bite-sized chunks that were wonderful to swallow, I want "The BLK PRSPCTV" to open that view and capture a wide range of perspectives and experiences that define our community.
A platform like "The BLK PRSPCTV" certainly goes a long way toward letting some of that be known and publicized so emerging artists can live well. Usually, known names tend to dominate the conversation, but out here somewhere lies a rich pool of untapped talent craving some recognition and support.
Until next time,
Stay bold, stay brilliant, and remember, as Jay-Z says, You could be anywhere in the world, but you're here with me. I appreciate that!
With love and creativity,
Shadé
I’m here for the evolution and love all the things this issue invites us to dive into. Thank you!
I love the new name! There are so many great things in this edition, too! ❤️
